Paraparaumu Airport
Sir, —Why saddle New Zealand taxpayers with added taxes to enable Paraparaumu to cope with jets? Better to cancel one DCB and purchase the smaller jets of up to 100seat capacity, which can operate. into Rongotai. By using D.H. Tridents or the B.A.C. 11l in long-range version, they could be integrated with and or operated by N.A.C., thus bringing closer the long-talked-of amalgamation of T.E.A.L. and N.A.C., the Government-operated airlines and first reserve to the R.N.Z.A.F. This would enable the southern half of New Zealand to have its jet service with a double benefit to New Zealanders—cheaper fares and lower taxes. More important, it would fit in more appropriately with the views of Mr McAlpine and his advisers in regard to their .estimate of the small passenger potential of the “stag- : nant south.”—Yours, etc., PARAPARAUMU AND BUS(T). November 20. 1963.
