Mouth And Foot Artists
Sir.—Once again the country is being flooded with sample packets of Christmas cards from the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists. Ltd., i New North road, Auckland ! I would like to ask a few, questions regarding this com-
pany. (1) Does the company buy the work of these artists outright, at market value, and if so, does the artist receive any further monetary benefit from the sale of the Christmas cards reproducing his work? (2) Are the profits of the company distributed solely among these incapacitated artists? <3> How many incapacitated artists are executives and/or tliareholders in the company? (4) How many of such artists are New Zealanders? These most unfortunate people are entitled to our deep sympathy and help, but the public, when appealed to so widely throughout the whole country for that help, are also entitled to an unequivocal and immediate answer to the above questions. Yours, etc., H. THOMPSON. November 8, 1963. 1 Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, Ltd., replies: “The artists are not ‘appealing for help’ and the company's operations are those of a publishing house comprising a ‘self-help’ enterprise by the artists on a commercial basis giving value for money. The company is owned by the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, which endeavours to ensure a continuing income for its members, of whom there is one New Zealander so far.”]
