BAD MOTHER GAOLED

111-treatment Of Son (N.Z. Presli Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Nov. 19. A mother left her four-year-old son in a cupbpard under the stairs for two days and nights while she went out drinking -with a man friend, the “Daily Mail” reported. The boy was crouched on the cement floor with only a glass of milk, bread and biscuits for food, a Middlesbrough (Yorkshire) Court was told yesterday. A doctor described the boy, Kevin Hopkins, as “looking like something out of Belsen.” A policewoman found Kevin in the cupboard wearing only a cotton shirt and Wellington boots. He was trembling with cold and emaciated. When he tried to walk, he had to remain bending. Mrs Dorothy Hopkins, aged 38, mother of two other children aged 17 months and five years, was gaoled for six months for wilful neglect. She was given another three months for stealing from gas and electricity meters in her home.
