(N .Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) VIENTIANE. Nov. 19.
Tlie cease-flre on the Plain of Jars agreed to on Saturday between the neutralists and pro-Communist Pathet Lao was broken by the Pathet Lao when it was only 36 hours old, according to neutralists’ reports reaching Vientiane.
The reports said the Pathet Lao opened fire with mortar and medium machine-guns yesterday evening on a neutralist position at Ban Na Linh, near the strategic Plain of Jars airfields.
The neutralists reported that one of their soldiers was killed when he stepped on a Pathet Lao mine. The cease-flre was meant as a first step towards a ’ summit” meeting between the Prime Minister and neutralist leader, Prince Souvanna Phouma, and the Pathet Lao titular chief, Prince Souphanouvong. Previous cease-fires in Laos have not lasted more than a few hours.
