MEETING LIVELY

P.M. Has To Shout (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 20. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoakei had a lively meeting in the Town Hall, Auckland. tonight. At times interjectors in the body of the hall tried to drown out the speaker. Mr Holyoake. speaking forcefully to 1100 took the interruptions in his stride although for some minutes he was forced to shout into his microphone to drown out cries from the hall. The chairman of the meeting, the Mayor <Mr D. M. Robinson) stopped proceedings toward the end of Mr Holyoake's 75-minute address to threaten the interjectors with police action. If the interjectors did not “pipe down” and give the Prime Minister a fair hearing, as he hoped Mr Nordmeyer would get tomorrow night, he would ask police to remove them. The interjections continued at diminished volume. Mr Holyoake entered the hall to the accompaniment of mixed cheers and booing which almost drowned out the usual “For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow.” Introductory remarks by the chairman, the Mayor, were also greeted with cheers and boos which continued unabated as he introduced 19 National Party candidates flanking their leader on Hie stage.
