A depression is passing eastwards to the south of the country, while a cold front advances northeastwards over the South Island. Forecast:— Canterbury.—South-westerlies later, mainly moderate inland, but fresh on parts of the coast; cloudy and cooler, with scattered rain. Outlook: scattered rain in the north; elsewhere partly cloudy. Buller and Westland.—Moderate to fresh northwesterlies turning slowly to south-westerlies; rain, probably clearing from South Westland by evening; cooler, with the south-westerlies. Outlook: scattered rain likely in Buller and North Westland; partly cloudy in the south. Marlborough.—North-westerly gales near Cook Strait; cloud increasing; some rain later; cooler temperatures. Outlook: unsettled. Nelson.—Moderate west or south-west winds, strong at times in exposed places; cloudy, with rain in the western ranges, spreading to more eastern areas during the day; cooler by evening.
