MR McALPINE IMPROVING
The Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) has been unable to fulfil his election campaign engagements since last Monday when he retired to bed because of illness. He is at his home in Ciiristchurch. Mr McAlpine’s last campaign meeting was on Monday evening at Lincoln and since then his place has been taken by Mr H. E. L. Pickering. the- National Party
candidate for Rangiora. and other party officers. Last evening, Mrs McAlpine said his illness had not been diagnosed in spite of X-rays and other hospital checks. It was still uncertain, she said, whether he could resume campaigning next week although he appeared to oe improving. Mr McAlpine is continuing to do some of his ministerial work from his bed.
