Roses For Travellers The theme for Wellington's rose week was marked in lavish fashion at Rongotai airport yesterday. Hostesses, their arms full of roses, met every plane to distribute blooms among delighted passengers. Terminal counters were decked with roses. Boxes of roses and manuka for N.A.C.’s airport counters and city offices were sent by the Mayor of Taradale (Mr A Miller).—(P.A.)

Original Condition During a motor show in the King Edward Barracks in 1926, a Morris Oxford tourer was bought off the floor by a Mrs Jackson, of Seafield, near Ashburton. On Friday, 37 years and only 40.000 miles later, the car will be auctioned at another motor show in the barracks, held by the Vintage Car Club. The car is now owned by a daughter of the original owmer and has done only about 500 miles a year since 1932. The only part needing replacement on the car was a dynamotor driving chain. It still uses no oil and does about 32 miles a gallon.

Flats Nearly Ready The first four tern. ts of the Waimairi County Council’s pensioners’ cottages in Raleign street will move into their new homes next week. The other two blocks of flats will be ready in a few weeks. Flights Cancelled All passengers booked to fly from Dunedin to Invercargill yesterday had to travel by bus- Cross-winds of 25 knots, with gusts of up to 35 knots, swept across the runway at Invercargill making any attempt at landing dangerous. But three special planes from Christchurch returning with trotting enthusiasts in the evening were able to land without trouble. — (P.A.) Fluoridation The Heathcote County Council would give full consideration to any approach by the Lyttelton Borough Council concerning the possible fluoridation of part of the county water supply, said the chairman (Mr J. C. Holliss) yesterday. The Borough Council decided on Monday evening to prepare sketch plans and to estimate costs for fluoridating the supply. Part of the Heathcote county supply is provided by the Lyttelton Borough Council, which thought the county might like to be included in the scheme. Response With Roses Three rooms full of roses and a mountain of emptyboxes in which they were sent tell the story of help extended to the Wellington Rose Society, host for the National Rose Convention. Sister societies sent so many blooms in response to stormbattered. Governor’s Return The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) is expected to return to Christchurch from the Antarctic on Thursday. The time of his flight from ’ ’cMurdo Sound had not been determined yesterday.
