LITTER BIN EXPLOSION
Inquiries By Police The Christchurch police are still inquiring into an explosion which wrecked a City Council litter bin in Colombo street outside the Dominion Book Company. Ltd., about 1.45 ajn on Saturday. The explosion blew the steel bin from its standard, and into three pieces, scattering the contents over the footpath. Policemen on patrol and beat duty rushed into Cathedral square. Because of the surrounding buildings, it was difficult to locate the explosion. Two young men told the police they had seen two youths pause by the bin. then run round the corner into Gloucester street before the explosion. The youths were thought to have a rental car parked nearby. The sound of the explosion woke men sleeping in the Y M C A, building at the corner of Cambridge terrace and Hereford street. The police believe the explosive was blasting powder or gelignite
