BOWLS PLAY BEGINS IN MANNING CUP AND THREE FOURS

The Christchurch Bowling Centre’s three-fours and Manning Cup competitions started on Saturday. In the morning the greens tor the three-fours games were a little holding after the rain during the week. In the afternoon they were a little keener, but not as fast as some of the seasoned players would have liked them to be. Most of the greens were running very true, and any bad bowls were the fault of the player, as there was insufficient wind to take a bowl of its course. New Brighton, which finished brilliantly in the last round of the three-fours competition last year to go from fourth place to take the title started well this season with a 67-46 win over Hornby. New Brighton won two of the three games. Competition in the three-fours competition, the premier competition of the centre, is very keen, and 14 club* have entered two teams.
