Wool Prices Jump At London Sales

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON, November 1. Under the most active and intense competition seen for a long time, there was a sharp rise in values at the opening of the London October-November wool sales yesterday, brokers reported.

The demand covered all qualities, but was strongest for crossbred wools. These, in some cases, bounded 15-to 20 per cent above September prices.

Compared with the closing rates of the September sales on September 13, the following percentage increases were registered:— New Zealand greasy halfbreds, 12J per cent New: Zealand greasy cross-

breds. 15 per cent. New Zealand scoured halfbreds, 10 to 15 per cent. New Zealand scoured crossbreds. 15 to 20 per cent. New Zealand slipes, 15 to 20 per cent. Australian greasy Merinos, 7| to 10 per cent. Australian scoured, 7) per cent. South African greasy Merinos, 7| per cent. The best offering of New Zealand scoured wools for a long time was catalogued. South Island clips in Merino, halfbred, fine crossbred, and crossbred qualities pre-

sented a beautiful show of wools in the good to super category. They were drawn mainly from South Canterbury, but Otago and Southland districts were also represented. North Island scoured crossbreds were in good supply, the greater weight comprising early shorn and short varieties.

The selection of greasy crossbred was rather limited. the main feature being soms good length pre-lamb shorn wools of good average to good style in light condition from South Island areas.

Remanded.— Murray Arnold Wright and Graeme Arthur Robertson, both airmen, aged 19, were reminded on bail to November 8 when they appeared before Messrs F. W. Zimmerman and W. J. Baxter, Justices of the Peace, in the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday on a charge of being found by night in an enclosed yard.
