KAIKOURA PROJECT

Department Criticised

The Health Department’s action in altering conditions proposed jointly by the North Canterbury Hospital Board and the Kaikoura County Council under which the council could take over administration of a piece of hospital land for a beautification project was criticised strongly, in the board's meeting yesterday by Mr V. J. Corbett.

"The conditions have been altered to such an extent that the proposition was made just impossible for the county,” said Mir Corbett. “It seems a pity the area should be left as it is. in the centre of a thriving town. “Two respectable bodies have agreed on conditions satisfactory to both: why alter these conditions? Why should the decision be left to the whims of departmental heads in Wellimgton?” The board decided to refer the matter back to its inatdtutaons committee for further investigation.
