Westport Man For Mawson <NZ Press Association > WESTPORT. Oct. 22. | A Westport man. Mr P. Martin, aged 36. has accepted an appointment with the Australian Government as officer in charge of the Australian base at Mawson. Antarctica. Mawson is the Largest of the three stations operated by the Australian Government in Antarctica Mr Martin served with the New Zealand Antarctic group as scientific leader of the joint New Zealand-American scientific team at Cape Hallett in 1961. and was also at Campbell Island. A son of Mrs M Martin, of Colvin street. Westport, he will leave for Melbourne tills week to take up his two-year appointment.

He is the technical representative of a scientific instruments company in New Zealand.

He served for eight years tn the Royal New Zealand Navy, and was later a radar specialist in the New Zealand Civil Aviation Administraction.
