SPANISH SINGER

Frequent Visits

To N.Z.

Christchurch audiences who saw the “Joy of Spam” revue more than two years ago will remember the Spanish singer, Diana Marquez. She has returned frequently since then, touting in the “Yellasoppin” and "Many Happy Returns” shows and on holiday, and is here again with “Stamight Roof ’63.” But this may be her last

appearance in the Dominion. Married to Mr J. J. Jean, a Frenchman who has lived eight years in Sydney, Australia, Miss Marquez plans to leave the professional theatre after 13 years. The couple intend to build a home on Sydney’s North Shore.

Yesterday Miss Marquez explained that home-making was her main interest. She would like to have a family and does not believe that theatre and motherhood go together. Diana Marque- has toured extensively in Europe, the Near East, Australia and New Zealand, and is well known in her own country. Her success is largely due to a “good ear,” as the only training she ever had was a year’s tuition when she was a small girl.
