WOOL PRESS TESTED
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 22
A revolutionary new vacuum wool press, developed by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, is being tested on a property ait Cavendish. 200 miles north-west of Melbourne.
It is claimed to have many advantages over Ute conventional press. A 12ft plastic bag is placed in an Bft bin. The wool is loaded into the bag and lightly pressed with a wooden rammer. A vacuum hose is then attached through the top of the bag and tied tightly to a pump.
The pump draws out the air and compresses the wool to a third of the size of the bin within one minute and a half.
The bag is lifted from the bin and placed in the wool pack, sealed in the conventional way. When the bag is sealed in the pack, a hook is used to pierce its side and allow it to swell to the full bale size.
