EXPLORER’S DEATH

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, October 22. Mr Robert Frederick White, a 20-year-old Victorian member of tile Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition, died at Mawson Base on Friday morning. He collapsed late on Thursday. The cause of death has not yet been determined. Mr White volunteered at one day’s notice in January to replace an expedition member in the Antarctic ship, Nella Dan. The man he replaced was disembarked at Albany, Western Australia, suffering from appendicitis. Mr White flew to Albany and joined the ship. In August he was one of three men who were immobilised for days in blizzards which forced them to abandon their sledge and tent. The three were badly frostbitten on the hands and feet.
