Paper Forecasts Snell Record Bid

(Sz. Prtu Association—Copvnght) MELBOURNE, October 22. New Zealand’s world mile champion, P. G. Snell, might attempt to break his record in Melbourne early next year, according to the “Melbourne Herald” today.

The newspaper said that Snell spoke about the prospects of a visit to Victoria when he met the Victorian long distance runner, R. Clarke, at Masterton last week-end. Clarke told reporters last nighft that Snell was particularly interested in running on the fast cinder-grass track at the Sandringham Amateur Athletic Club's headquar-

tens at the southern suburb of Hampton. The -Herald" said SneU would consider visiting Melbourne early in March while on bis way to tour South Africa.

The newspaper added that the New Zealand mile champion, J. L. Davies, was interested in accompanying Snell to Melbourne. Clarke said that he would ask the Victorian Amateur Athletic Association to invite SneU and Davies to compete in a mile at Hampton at a twilight meeting. The "Herald" said that Davies might stay on for the Melbourne Moomba festival athletic championships at Olympic Park on March 9.
