Improvements In 1965-66 The Improvements to Haven road estimated to cost £46.000. started last year, wtu be completed in ISBS-S6, when a start will be made on the north approach to Nelson City in the district (Neteoo-Marl-£38,000 is planned tor 14 miles of new sealing on State highways si (Motueka-Motupika) and <3 (Blenhedtn-Topbousc). On State Highway <5 from O’Sullivans to the Shenandoah £lO.OOO is allocated in 1904-65 to start improvement over a seven-mile section. The total coot is estimated at £30,000. On State Highway 6 the section from Doughboy to O’Sullivan's bridge will be sealed on a new allotment. £125.000 being planned over three years. Reconstruction work on State Highway 1 is spread over six items totalling £67.000. Starting in 1964-66 is the £16.000 Waima (Ure) deviation. Thia deviation will eliminate a sub-standard railway overbridge and ultimately. when a new river bridge is built, the present combined road and rail bridge. In the third year, work is concentrated on five new items on State Highway 80 through the Waimea county, £65,000 is planned for a commitment of £106,000. all at which Is for work associated with bridge approaches to six new structures.

Bridging is a major problem in this district, their 10-year needs being one of the highest in the country. Thirty-two bridges totalling 5030 ft, have been planned, representing a very heavy load on the Welllnfrton district design staff The bridges are predominantly of the £5OOO to £l5 000 bracket with the 560 ft. £90.000 structure at O'Sullivans being the largest.
