STAKES AT TRENTHAM

Hi-Minx Runs Good Trial "The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON N„ Oct. 22. Hi-Minx and Ichtar took the honours at Awapuni today when they ran impressively over six furlongs on the plough. They appeared evenly matched throughout Hi-Miinx is in the Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham and Ichtar wall contest the Rimutafca Hack Handicap. El Ganador showed his fitness for the Watkins Handicap by gall.,ping well over a mile with Beech Park and NightmiHl. Noranda, Cattleman and Spring Sonnet were others to please. The plough, which had been watered, provided fast going. Hi-Minx was going nicely alongside Ichtar at the finish of six furlongs in Irndn 18sec, the last three taking 38 2-s®ec.

Hi-Minx has thrived since her good second in hack class at Masterton. She faces tough opposition from Cicada and Marise on Saturday but she should still acquit herself well. Ichtar was a last start winner at Masterton. He has trained on since and should be a definite Trentham prospect. Noranda and Doradeb finished six furlongs together in Imin 19sec. the final three taking 40 l-ssec. They were eased in the straight and Noranda in particular was inclined to loaf over the final stages. Noranda is one of T. H. Knowles’s powerful' team. She ran a good race at Ellerslie and should be at her best tor the Awatea Handicap.

Spring Sonnet and Cattleman went brilliantly over five firulongs. They ran the distance in Imin 3 2-ssec after taking 35 2-asee for the first three. Not unexpectedly, they were stowing up at the finish. Both maidens have drawn badly in the Trial Stakes.

El Ganador was going easily alongside Beech Park and Nightmill towards the finish of a mile in imin 48sec, the last three furlongs in 41 sec. El Ganador ran a bold race in the Waverley Cup, considering that he had a bruised foot. He has recovered and will not be without prospects in the Watkins Handicap.
