MORE LAND SOUGHT
Christchurch G.H.S. The board of governors of Christchurch Girls’ High Schoo] has decided to ask the Education Department to look into the possibility of buying Dr D. Anderson’s property at 25 Armagh street when it comes up for auction at the end of the month. The principal (Miss P Robinson) said that she was worried about the problem of accommodating next year’s classes. Upper sixth classes would probaJ’v be twice the size they were this year and would have to be split for the first time.
The number of classes taking biology had increased over the last few years Three laboratories were inadequate to meet present needs, she said There had not been one period this year when they had been free Some classes were only having half the normal period Lack of land was also holding up necessary additions and planning for other longterm needs. Even though the property was not on the same side of Armagh street as the school, asking the department would publicise the need for more space, said Mies Robinson.
More than £3O was collected from last week's "Civvies Day.” said Miss Robinson This me=nt that slightly more than £5O had been sent by the school to the Rice Bowl Appeal. The board agreed to hold the official opening of Acland House's new swimmingpool on November 9.
