Parliament’s Diary

Fourteen bills were passed through all stages by Parliament yesterday. Of these, the Statutes Amendment Bill itself was subdivided into more than 70 bills which will receive the Royal assent individually. The others were:— The Mining Amendment Bill, the Workers Compensation Amendment Bill, the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill, the Social Security Amendment Bill, the Public Revenues Amendment Bill, the Estate and Gift Duties Amendment Bill, the Rotorua Maori Arts and Crafts Institute Bill, the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council of New Zealand Bill, the Rabbits Amendment Bill, the Nurses' and Midwives’ Amendment Bill, the Maori Welfare Amendment Bill, the Historic Places Amendment Bill, the Nurses’ and Midwives’ Amendment Bill, and the Waitangi Day Amendment Bill. Urgency was taken on 49 bills. Thirteen were made ready for their third reading, and 15 were advanced a stage. Eight bills which were returned yesterday from their committees were each given a second reading.
