OVER-FAT LAMBS

Board’s Policy On Breeding (N.Z. Press Associaticn) WELLINGTON, Oct. 20. “The percentage of overfat lambs does not warrant a departure from the basic breeds which have served and will continue to serve us so well. We still want the conformation of the typical Down-cross lamb,” says the chairman of the Meat Board, Mr J. D. Ormond, in a circular letter to farmers setting out the board’s policy on over-fat lambs. Mr Ormond's circular addressed to all branches of Federated Farmers says it would be a mistake to move away from breeds which produce Down-cross type of conformation. The board was satisfied that indiscriminate cross-breeding was not in New Zealand’s best interests.
