N. Rhodesian Defence Plan

(N.Z.P A.-Reuter—Copyright) LUSAKA, Oct. 16. A non-racial Northern Rhodesia Defence Force will be established after the breakup of the Federation on December 31. It will have a regular army of two battalions of infantry and an armoured car squadron equipped with the latest vehicles. These will be supported by an air wing consisting of two squadrons of transport and reconnaissance aircraft. Northern Rhodesia is to receive four Dakotas and two Pembroke aircraft from the Royal Rhodesian Air Force, through the agreement reached by the four Governments involved in the breakup. Southern Rhodesia has received the bulk of the aircraft and most of the Army units. The new defence force is to consist of 182 officers and 2749 men.
