ARMY COOK BURNED
Spirit Stove Blew Back (N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER, Oct. 15. A 21-year-old cook suffering from burns to the upper part of his body, was flown from Rangitaiki to Napier in an R.N.ZA.F. Bristol freighter yesterday. The cook. Driver M. F Hickisey, aged 21, of 16 Bidetord road. New Plymouth, was the first serious casualty of Refiex 11, the Army-Air Force mock war which began in the Rangitaiki area on September 30. The Bristol Freighter was met at the Hawke's Bay airport by a St John Ambulance and Driver Hickisey was token to Napier Hospital.
His condition this afternoon was comfortable.
Driver Hickisey said a white spirit stove blew back on him whole he was in the cookhouse of the brigade maintenance headquarters yesterday morning.
He was wearing shorts only, and suffered burns to the body and right arm.
