Wage Rises Fixed
The minimum weekly wages of male kitchen staff are increased by 9s 7d and of female iritchen staff by 8s 2d under the provisions of the New Zealand Hospital Domestic Workers' Award just issued by the Court of Arbitration.
Male orderlies, wardsmen, store porters, cleaners, night watchmen, patrolmen, and other domestics also receive an increase of 9s 7d a week.
Females employed as wardsmaids, housemaids, waitresses, pantrymaids, laundresses, seamstresses, linen maids, telephone maids, cleaners and other female domestics other than kitchenmaids, receive an increase of 8s 2d a week.
Casual workers receive an increase in wages of lid an hour.
The value of board and lodging for toe purpose of toe awards is £2 a week.
After six months’ continuous service with the same employer a worker shall be entitled to a total period of sick leave on pay over the whole length of service, ranging from two weeks up to one year to 26 weeks over 12 years’ service, all being inclusive of days previously allowed. The award has an unqualified preference clause. The provisions regarding wages, are retrospective to August 26 and. the other provisions came into force on October 11.
