GAVE FALSE ALARMS

Brothers To Pay £lB4 (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Oct. 16. “You have had your fun and the bill for it will be a heavy one,” Mr R. D. Jamieson, S.M., said in the Magistrate’s Court today in imposing fines and costs totalling £lB4 14s on two brothers who admitted giving five malicious false alarms to the Wellington Fire Brigade early last Sunday morning. The men. Carlisle Alan McLatchie, aged 30, a driver, and Roger Hugh McLatchie, aged 23, a drainlayer, admitted giving false alarms, one by telephone and the others from street boxes, between 12.4 a.m. and 1.1 a.m.

Inspector J. G. B. Rossiter, prosecuting, said the total coat of the alarms to the brigade, estimated at £lO a unit turned out, was £l2O.

“The escapade was a stupid and senseless prank induced by drink.” said Mr J. J. Shaw, who appeared for both accused.
