HEMLINES HIGHER

(N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM, Sept. 12. Nearly 20,000 women bowlers will lift the hemlines on their regulation bowling frocks this summer. Shorter dress has been decreed by the New Zealand Women’s Bowling Association conference in Blenheim. Sockettes have been ruled out of order. Stockings only will be worn. White frocks will remain the standard evening tournament costume, a remit seeking legislation of grey skirts having failed. Delegates from 21 centres decided these regulations yesterday, when the annual conference discussed remits from throughout New Zealand. The hemline will be lifted an inch and will now be 13in off the ground.
