Submarines In Pacific

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, September 10. At least 100 Russian submarines, including seven nu-clear-powered boats, are deployed in Far East waters, according to American intelligence. Giving the figures to a Tokyo newspaper yesterday, the commander of the American Pacific submarine fleet, Vice-Admiral J. T. Hayward, said the present Soviet submarine strength was 475 craft, 10 of them nuclear-pow-ered.
