MEDICAL FEES

Two Systems To Continue (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Sept. 11. Doctors will be permitted to continue using either the refund or the schedule system in handling claims by patients for Social Security payments, the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) said in reply to a question by Mr J. B. Gordon <Government, Clutiha) in Parliament today. “The special committee on the availability and distribution of medical practitioners, which is expected to report next month, will no doubt have some observations to make on this matter,” Mr McKay said.

Mr Gordon had asked whether, in view of the figures disclosed m the annual report of the Health Department. that there was a marked tendency by doctors to claim payments for their patients on the schedule system the Minister could say whether any move was contemplated to put all doctors on the schedule system, thus relieving the public of the onus and difficulty of claiming personally under the refund method.
