FOREST FIRE
Blaze Sweeps 100 Acres
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 11. Forty men fought a fire which blazed over 100 acres for four hours at the Woodlaw State Forest, 15 miles from Otautau, today. The fire started when a farmer’s burning-off fire got out of control and spread into the forest. The men fought the fire with hoses from water tanks on the backs of trucks, spades and wet sacking. The forest is planted in 900 acres of pine, Douglas firs and larch. An over-night watch was kept on the area.
