Tea-Room Prices

Sir, —The humble “cuppa,” from 3d to 6d in wartime, is now lOd ait certain “quick lunch” counters. Are there no restrictions on the price of refreshments? I was told toe tea was Bd, with 2d surcharge for room, whatever that might mean, as tables and chairs are there for one to sit a few minutes. I think it a bit avaricious to charge lOd for tea and Is for coffee without having the charges displayed. It is embarrassing to some to cancel tea or coffee when it is already in the cup.—Yours, MODERATION September 11, 1963.
