Miss Brown was commenting on the details of club membership in the annual report, which showed a decrease of 47 on the 1961-62 total Canterbury, she said, was one of only four centres in the country to show a decrease in membership Other centres had made big advances and Canterbury was now only fifth numerically in New Zealand. The total club membership is now 1870. The chief increases shown were by Wharenui. 304 to 376; Papanui, 176 to 231; and Fendaiton, 64 to 103, but Elmwood’s figure slumped from 305 to 104.
