NEW CAMPAIGN FOR RONDABELLE

“The Press" Special Service

DUNEDIN, Sept. 10. Rondabelle and Birthright, which will make fresh starts ait the Ashburton Counity Racing Club's meeting on Saturday. were two of the most impressive trialists at Wingatui this morning. The tracks were beginning to make a good recovery, but heavy rain on Monday night gave them another good soaking and the work was confined to the plough, which offered flair footing. Ridden by her race rider, R. J. Skelton. Rondabelle led early from Birthright (E. J. Didham). At the end of six furlongs they were on terms in Imin 20 3-asec. the last half-mile in 53 l-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 40sec. Rondabelle is not a good track worker and had to be kept up to her work over the final stages. Rondabelle will test a strong field of three-year-oJds in the John Grigg Stakes without the benefit of a race since she finished fifth in the Great Northern Foal Stakes at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day. It was unfortunate that the race trials had to be postponed last Saturday, as a gallop in race conditions would have been of considerable benefit to her.

The brilliant Bellborough filly was not tested to win her three earlier races—the McLean Stakes at - Wingatui. the Wellesley Stakes at Trantham. and she Welcome Stakes M Riccarton.

Birthright has not raced since Easter and is well forward to resume in the Spring Handicap, the second leg of the Ashburton double. A high-weight winner at the Wellington Cup meeting, he was placed in his last three races in open company at Riverton and Riccarton. and should soon make the grade in top claes. On Saturday he will be ; ridden by the Wingatui apprentice, J. Carvalho. ■ Belle El Nil (M. Dowling) iand Idol Prince (E. J. Didham) were together over five i furlongs in Imin 7 4-ssec, the opening three furlongs in 39 Belle El Nil has been disappointing since she resumed racing and will have to improve tot to match the company she will meet in the i John Grigg Stakes.

Lostalon (B. P. Kennedy) was giving his stablemate, Kelton (P. J. Denton), a start when they broke away, but he worked keenly to finish on terms in Imin Bsec, coming home strongly over the last three furlongs in 39 2-ssec. Lostalon did not get the best of runs ait Gore when he finished fourth in his first test in open company. He could improve on that effort in the Ashburton Cup. Hot Foot (M. Dowling) and Palisade (R. Pledger) were not out for time in Imin lOsec. and Black Jack (B. P. Kennedy) and Waaco (R. J. Skelton) were given a similar task in the same time. Black Jack will be favoured by the distance of one mile and 60 yards in the Mount Somers Maiden Stakes. A good-looking son of Gold Nib, he requires time to get balanced

Pasowa (J. D. Pankhurst) and Patwood (T. Ppwell) ran half a mile in 53 4-ssec, and Royal News (R. Wilder) sprinted from the three furlongs in 38 2-ssec. Belshazzar (R. J. Skelton) gave his best performance to date in keeping on terms with the more experienced Royal Burgh (B. P. Kennedy) over three furlongs in 38 4-5 sec. These two sons of Bellborough are candidates for the McLean Stakes, the two-year-old classic on the opening day of the Dunedin Jockey Club's spring meeting on September 28.

Trainer Giving Up Licence “The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, Sept. 10. H. T. Anderton, who had been training in partnership with his father, H. A. Anderton, for the last few months, has relinquished his trainer’s licence and will concentrate on his float business. H. A.
