The Press MONDAY, AUGUST 26, 1963. A Welcome Visitor
New Zealanders will be happy to have the Queen Mother with them again next year, though her visit will be brief and may provide few occasions for public gatherings. As the fortnight she is to spend here in February will be in part a short holiday before she goes on to Adelaide to open the arts festival, her
New Zealand appearances will be limited. No-one would wish to spoil her holiday by making too great demands on her graciousness, though all districts will hope to be included in her itinerary. However, the mere fact that the Queen Mother wishes to revisit New Zealand so soon after her last tour in 1958 will gratify citizens. She has held a special place in the
affections of New Zealanders ever since she first came to the Dominion as the young Duchess of York more than 30 years ago; then the possibility that she would one day be a QueenConsort making her own personal claims to the affection and loyalty of her husband’s subjects seemed remote. She will always be a welcome visitor in a country that has such happy memories of her, and such a lively appreciation of the part she has played in the notable public service given by the Royal Family into which she married. She would be respected as the mother of the Queen; she is loved for herself. New Zealanders will take whatever opportunities - they may have of demonstrating both sentiments in February.
