BRILLIANT PLAY

Aust. Title To Mrs Streit (N.Z. Prut Attn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. Aug. 25. Mrs M. Streit, of Canada, won the Australian women’s golf championship at Royal Sydney on Saturday and became the first overseas player to take the title since 1955. Mrs Streit beat Miss R. Porter, of England, 8 and 7, in the 36-hole final with another display of precision golf. During the championship she reeled off 120 holes for eight under scratch and lost only five holes, including three tn the final, during the match-play rounds. Mrs Streit has now won the Canadian, British American, and Australian titles, and proved by her tenacious display on Saturday that she is the greatest amateur woman ever to play in Australia. Although troubled by the greasy conditions, the bespectacled champion was never trailing. Mrs Streit established a four-up lead at lunch and completely dominated play in the afternoon round.
