Indoor Bowls PAIRS TITLE
WinForE.G.F. Smith The Canterbury Indoor Bowling Association’s pairs chamglonship was won yesterday by 1. G. F. Smith (skip) and Mrs Smith, of the United Friendly Society Club. Forty-nine teams of the 125 which entered qualified for post-section play. The quarter-finalist* were D. Hatsen (Fernleaf), D. Higham (Arawa), W. Cuttance (A.N.Z.), H. Foster (South Brighton), A. E. Williamson (Pioneer), H. Lack (New Brighton R.S.A.), Smith and I. Taylor (St. Hilda's). Hatsell beat Higham, 8-7. to enter the semi-finals, and Cuttance beat Foster. 7-6. Lack beat Williamson, 11-4, and Smith beat Taylor, 8-4. In the semi-finals, Cuttance easily beat Hatsell, 11-3, and Lack, in a fairly close game, was beaten by Smith, 10-5. The final between Smith and Cuttance was close, and after the first five ends the score was 5-aIl. On the sixth and seventh ends, Cuttance gained six points, but on the tenth end he was only one point in the lead. 11-10. Smith gained one shot on the last two ends to win, 12-11. G. Champion was lead for Cuttance.
