Hope To Tell Jokes On Melbourne Cup Night

NEW YORK. August 23. Bob Hope expects to attend tiiis year’s Melbourne Cup, a spokesman for the American comedian said in New York today. Hope was planning to fly to Australia on October 31 or November 1 on a twoweek combined business and pleasure trip, the spokesman said Hope told him by telephone from Hollywood today. “He wants to watch the Melbourne Cup on November 5, perhaps buy two
or more brood mares and put on a couple of shows.” The spokesman said Hope was planning to put on a variety show in Melbourne on the night of November 5, after the running of the cup. He would then fly to Sydney to present a show there on November 6 and later fly home by way of Auckland and Wellington.
