HAWKE’S BAY CHALLENGE
“Not Up There For Fun” (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 25. ‘‘We have not come up here for fun, we hope to do well,’' said Mr C. le Quesne, selectorcoach of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby team which arrived in Auckland today in preparation for its Ranfurly Shield challenge on Tuesday. "We are. however, delighted at the gesture which has enabled us to defend the old Hawke's Bay record.” he said. On Saturday Auckland tied the record of 24 consecutive shield defences set by Hawke's Bay in 1922-26. The Hawke’s Bay team includes F. Jones, at full-back, in place of the injured P. Bishop, and A. Small as a flanker. Smail, the goal-kicker, was a points centurion last year, but his appearances have been few this season. Dick Joins Squad M. J. Dick, the North Island player, has joined the Auckland team. He trained with the side today on the left wing and showed no signs of his thigh injury. R. J. Patterson, the left wing, who was injured in the match against Canterbury and aggravated the injury against Wanganui on Saturday, cannot P The other injured players. M. C. M. Cormack, the full-back, and B. T. Thomas, the lock, are also unlikely to play. The team may have only one change from that which defeated Wanganui.
