MR A. W. MINSON

Mr Arthur William Minson, a well-known Christchurch retailer, died on Friday at the age of 93. Mr Minson was bom at St. Ives, Huntingdonshire. After some years’ retail experience in England and Guernsey he came to New Zealand in 1894

to join his father in the family business of Minsons, Ltd., then called Minson and Company. After 35 years’ partnership with his father and later with his younger brother, Mr W. L. Minson, who died in 1932, he became the sole owner of the company in 1929. With the assistance of several of his sons he maintained an active part in governing the business. He was chairman of directors until 1956. Mr Minson was interested in music, and for some years, together with his wife, he played in the Christchurch Musical Union Orchestra. He lived in Opawa until 1940, and gave part of the grounds of his home for the site of the Opawa Public Library. In 1902, he married Miss Evelyn Constance Bell, who died in 1960. He is survived by his family of eight sons and his daughter, Mrs N. E. Bowater.
