PAINFUL SUICIDE

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)

LONDON, August 23.

Suicide by an overdose of sleeping pills is not always a painless “way out.” It could often lead to considerable pain, the “Nursing Mirror” says.

Most persons think that suicide by taking sleeping tablets is a “quiet drifting off into the big deep,” but they might just as easily end up in considerable pain with severe shock and brain damage.

The “Nursing Mirror” warns against the modern attitude of carelessness in dealing with sleeping pills and adds “whenever a suicide hits the headlines there seems to follow an outbreak of attempts at ending life.” The article advocates that doctors and hospital staffs should develop a more responsible attitude to sleeping pills and encourage their patients to do the same.
