First Over 17 Feet

The United States pole vaulter, John Fennel, hurrying to beat a thunderstorm, became the first man in history to clear 17 feet in the pole vault on Saturday. He soared over the bar at a world record of 17ft 05in at Coral Gabies, Florida, United Press International reported. “I’ve been looking forward to this. I felt relaxed and now I feel great,” Fennel said.
