Athletics LYDIARD NOT FINISHED
Coach Denies Report (N.Z. Press Association) • AUCKLAND, August 25. Mr A. Lydiard today denied an Invercargill report that quoted him as having said he was “finished with athletics.”. He said he had been asked whether he was training any athletes whom he thought would develop into champions. "My reply was that I am finished with training athletes personally, but that I am now in an advisory capacity available to any sport—including athletics,” he said. Mr Lydiard also denied having mentioned the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association when he discussed officialdom. . . . He asserted that what he said was that he found hlnuself coming up against officialdom generally, and because of this, felt that the best he could do for sport was to try to help everyone by lecturing and acting as an adviser.
