POLICY OF P.S.A.
P.M. Replies To Mr Balt (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 21.. “The tone and the content of Mr E. J. Batt’s presidential address to the Public Service Association’s conference are at odd variance with his position as head of an association which he says has no political allegiance,” said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) commenting on Mr Batt’s reported criticism of Government policies. "If the Public Service Association is to have no political allegiance it must seem strange to the great body of thinking and reasonable public servants to find Mr Batt making such a blatantly political attack in the name of the association of which they are members,” he said. “It seems to me that civil servants are perfectly capable of forming political judgments without Mr Batt taking it on himself to speak on their behalf,” the Prime Minister said.
