CITY POLLING BOOTHS
Clear Signposting Planned (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. He had already taken up with the Electoral Department the better signposting of polling booths and that was something that would be done better than under Labour, said the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) in answer to Mr M. A. Connelly (Opp., Riccarton) in Parliament tonight. Mr Connelly said that in the interests of elderly people and mothers with young children, polling booths should not be limited to an arbitrary mile apart. Christchurch was a rapidly-growing city, and in new areas many people were, not yet acquainted with the location of halls and other places used as booths. W’here they were in side streets, signposting should be distinct. He also had the impression that in some areas the number of booths was not related to population, and the booths were better signposted and more equally distributed than in sparsely-settled areas.
