Obituary MR H. ELLWOOD

Mr Harry Ellwood, a wellknown Christchurch music teacher, an authority on violins, and an accomplished musician, died in Christchurch on Tuesday. He was 71. Mr Ellwood was a foundation member of the National Orchestra. He was for a time its deputy-leader and leader of the second violins. He retired in 1951. Born in Yorkshire, England, Mr Ellwood came to New ZeaJand with his parents in 1901. Together with his sister, Pauline, and his brother, George, he formed the Ellwood Trio before World War L Earlier. the three had studied music in Belgium and Germany. Mr Ellwood is survived by his two sisters. Miss Pauline Ellwood and Mrs P. W. Young, of Tirnaru. and by his father, Mr D. Ellwood.
