S.I. FREEZING COMPANIES

Retirement Of Secretary Mr W. E. Wilson, who has been secretary of the South Island Freezing Companies’ Association for the last 12 yearn, has retired after an association with the freezing industry going back to 1920. During that time he has seen New Zealand’s sheep flocks double—from about 24m to just on 50m. Mr Wilson began work in 1912 as an office junior in the Gore office of the National Mortgage and Agency Company. Ltd. Later he became branch accountant. In 1920 he moved to the Longburn Freezing Works, near Palmerston North, as accountant. He became assistant manager of the works, and In 1940 was appointed manager when the Co-operative Wholesale Society took the works over. He held this position until he retired ait the end of 1950. Early in 1951 he became secretary to the South Island Freezing Companies’ Association and he remained in this position until his retirement at the end of June. A presentation was made to Mr Wilson art the recent annual meeting of the joint labour committee of the Freezing Companies’ Associations. With his wife he is now living in retirement art Raumati. Wellington. Mr Wilson’s successor is Mr L. S. White, who was previously industrial officer with the New Zealand Refrigerating Company in Christchurch
