The first schoolboy football match to be televised in Christchurch will be played on Saturday, August 31. The game, between a New Zealand under 15 team and the touring New South Wales under 15 team, will also be the first “test” match to be played in a junior Rugby League grade. The New Zealand team will be selected during the annual schoolboy tournament in Christchurch between August 26 and August 30. The tournament is played among Auckland, Canterbury, Bay of Plenty, Waikato, the West Coast, and Wellington. An inter-island match will also be played on Thursday. August 29. at the Papanui Domain, where the tournament will be held. The curtain-raiser to the "test" will be a senior game, probably between Hornby and Marist. There will, be only two senior games that day as Linwood will be taking part in the Rothmans final at Auckland. This was decided at last evening’s meeting of the Canterbury Rugby League’s board of control. The board granted permission to the Marist and Papanui senior teams to play an exhibition game at Temuka on September 1, with the cur-tain-raiser between two Papanui under-14 teams.
