RACING Sir Athol Succeeds In Tally-Ho Handicap

“The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, August 18. Sir Athol, which was prominent under top-weights in hade events at the Grand National meeting, outclassed his five opponents in the one mile Tally-Ho Handicap, the feature flat race at the Otago Hunt Club’s meeting at Wingatui on Saturday.

this event was the first leg of the T.A.B. double, which was rounded off by the well supported Approval in the G. J. Barton Memorial Handicap. The combination paid £l5 13s 6d for £l. The top-weight and third favourite. Summer Star, was last in the Tally-Ho Handicap. Her rider. E. J. Didham, was questioned by the stipendiary steward after the race. He stated that at ac stage was the Summertime mare able to handle the going and when tried with the whip she failed to improve. In a total doubles pool of £21.426 ss. including £2192 on-course, Donna Maria was favourite with 16.6204 10s tickets. Sir Athol had 11,617 and Summer Star 11,1795. Bold Venture was the second leg favourite with 7336 5s tickets and Approval was next with 4979 tickets. Soon in Front Sir Athol ran clear at the end of a furlong in the TallyHo Handicap and was a length clear of Donna Maria and White Skies with Summer Star, Captain Morgan end Kazaan running in Ind.an file. There was little change to the straight. Sir Athol drew away to win by five lengths from Donna Maria with half a length to Kazaan. which moved up on the inside and outfinished White Skies for third by two lengths. Captain Morgan and Summer Star were next. Shared Trail Approval shared the trail with Bold Venture behind Waihola and Corvale in the early stages ot the G. J. Barton Memorial. Waihola ran two lengths clear going to the half-mile from Corvale and Bold Venture with Approval and Filwood ahead of Chattel and Aquinas. Running to the turn Waihola was joined by Corvale Bold Venture and Filwood with Approval close up.

Bold Venture had a slight ' advantage running to the furlong, but Approval wore him down to win by half a length.
