REFUGEES SEIZED
Cuban Action In Bahamas (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Aug. 16. Two Cuban warships and a helicopter seized 19 refugees from a British-held island in title Bahamas last Tuesday. The incident was seen from United States aircraft, the State Department announced yesterday. A spokesman also said that, ait the request of Britain, a United States Coast Guard ship had picked up ten other Cuban refugees from the island—Anguilla Cay. The spokesman said the Cuban authorities had no right to remove the refugees against their will from British territory. Asked why the United States had not intervened he replied: “We were not in a position to.” The question of a protest to the Cuban authorities was up to the British Government, he said.
