FAST DC3 FLIGHT

Melbourne To Auckland (N Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 18 A South Pacific Av lines of New Zealand DC3 Viewmaster landed at Whenuapai on Saturday afternoon after making what the company believes is the first direct DC3 flight from Melbourne to Auckland. The aircraft which has been under major overhaul in the Ansett-A.N.A workshops at Essendon airport, left Melbo-rne at 7.26 a.m Pushed along by a generous tail wind it averaged about 190 miles an hour to land in Auckland at 4.12 pm. The smooth seven and three-quarter hour flight was in contrast to the trip to Australia four weeks ago Strong headwinds forced the DC3 to be diverted to Sydney for refuelling before continuing to Melbourne, a flying time of 15 hours.
